A good guitar lead, microphone cable or other piece of connecting musical equipment should be able to transmit an audio signal that arrives at the other end having been changed as little as possible during transit. The signal going into a perfect wire would be absolutely identical to the signal leaving it at the other end. In reality, this is not possible. High quality cables can carry signals with very little disruption, however.
